Triumphant return
We’re back. Even after two whole days of laying around our apartment, I still haven’t managed to write about the vacation or upload all of my photos. However, some of the photos are online, so for now I offer you my flickr and Joe’s flickr. Enjoy.
And before I go to bed on this very sad last night of our vacation, I would like to record that today Joe and I went to the Foire internationale et gastronomique de Dijon (International Food Fair of Dijon). This is an annual fair. Each year one country is a guest of honor, and this year it is Lebanon. We wandered into the Lebanon pavilion, which was full of mint tea, baklava, and music. There was also a “spice market” booth, selling cumin and coriander and mixes for everything from choucroute to méchoui, and what do you know, there was a little basket of something peppery labeled “Épices KENTUCKAY.”
I asked the man behind the counter what was in this mysterious “Kentuckay” mixture, but I don’t think he heard me over the strange combination of traditional Lebanese music and synthesizer filling the hall. Maybe it was a secret. Anyway, I pointed and he responded “C’est pour les grillades.” (It’s for grilling.) Okay, then.

Colonel Sanders’ 11 secret herbs and spices perhaps???
