Students

They’re going to change my schedule in the third week of January, and probably give me all new classes. Even though I haven’t managed to learn all the names of my students this term, it disappoints me that I might not get to see them again. Not all of them are good, of course, but at least I seem to have a pretty nice bunch. Next semester I know I’ll be working with terminales (seniors) to help them prepare for their oral exams. No idea how that will be–it’s true that my current favorite students are the oldest ones, but sometimes I like teaching the secondes (sophomores) because they’re very enthusiastic. (The negative way to describe it is “out of control.”)

By the way, my students’ names are very different from American high school students’ names. Perhaps I shouldn’t be so surprised, given that it’s a different language and culture, but… Sometimes I want to say “Wait, is your name really Romuald/Aurélien/Florian?”

I do think all of three of those names are cool, and I appreciate that they are easy to remember. (I can’t even tell you how many François and Benjamins I have.) They just seem so… Renaissance? My students don’t seem to find them in any way extraordinary.
